Mara felt the key before she saw it—an electric tug beneath the palm of her hand, like the hum of a wire. It was colder than metal should be, brass gone to a dark green patina, teeth cut in an unfamiliar geometry, and at its bow, instead of the usual hole, a small lattice like a map.
